Darwin is small enough to walk around, mate. The centre of the city has a number of surviving (more like reconstructed) buildings from the early days, because of the somewhat “gusty” winds here from time to time. Some of these face the parklands of the west-facing Esplanade. Here is located the Government House of 1883. It is of tropical-style (for obvious reasons as Darwin is in the tropics), and is Darwin’s oldest building (more like oldest surviving building). The Governor of the Northern Territory lives here. |
